Glenna McGlenn

Glenna McGlenn (aka Granny G): 10.31.1948 (McAlpin, WV)-03.23.2005 (Fairoaks Hospital)

I just want to take a moment to share my feelings about Glenna McGlenn. I didn’t really get a chance to say good bye so, this will be my way……

Glenna was born in McAlpin, WV….I’m sure a lot of you don’t even know where that’s at…it’s “down the road”(for my WV folks, you know how far that is) from Beckley, WV. And if I recall correctly she was a coal miners daughter….and I know at that time they (miners) didn’t make as much as they do now.  I’m saying this because so you would understand that she didn’t have much to start. She had to work hard to get what she had.  She raised two wonderful kids…as a single mom when they were both young and she fought breast cancer for a long time (one tough lady).  She went through so much and seems to always have a smile…there were a few rough days but that never gets her down.   Even with having to go though all of this (not to mention other stuff…I don’t want to put all her stuff out there though), she was still working everyday at Community Bank of Northern VA. I have not met one person that did not like her. She had this easiness about her. She was like the neighborhood mom. You feel like you can talk to her about anything and everything.  I don’t think she had a mean bone in her. Even to some one she didn’t like, she would always seem to be kind to them. Sort of like Aunt May in Spiderman….anyways, I honestly wish I could be more like her and have the strength that she had and to look at the world in the same way….

I was lucky to have known such an extraordinary person. Glenna wasn’t just my mother-in-law but a great friend (she’s also a grandmother (Granny G) to two grand kids).

You’ll always be in my heart and will be missed greatly. Love you…
